VIENTIANE, LAOS – Kim Nguyen, founder of Ride Planet Earth, recently delivered some DawaPlus® long- lasting insecticide-treated nets to the Maternity Waiting Homes project in Vientiane, Laos. The homes offer a safe delivery of pregnant women in Laos, especially in remote areas. Kim delivered the nets to the project on behalf of Tana Netting, as part of a larger donation of 50 DawaPlus® nets aimed at providing pregnant women and their newborns protection against malaria-carrying mosquitoes.
Tana Netting is a proud sponsor of Ride Planet Earth, a 16-month bicycle journey from Australia to Denmark to raise awareness of the impacts of climate change and environmental abuses. Kim began his quest in August 2008 in Australia and has biked through East Timor, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Laos. He stopped by Tana Netting’s headquarters to learn more about the company and took a few nets with him on his ride towards Laos.
In Vientiane, he met with Dr. Rattanaxay Phetsouvanh, Deputy Head of PR and Head of M&E Unit, The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, Dr. Samlane Phompida, Director, Center of Malariology, Parasitology and Entmology, and Dr. Geodatto, Project Director, Maternity Waiting Homes to deliver the initial batch of nets. The remainder of the donation will be delivered in March.
