Count Tana Netting in to count malaria out on World Malaria Day
Tana Netting and Kenya Airways collaborate to raise awareness on 25 April

  23 April 2010

Bangkok – Tana Netting and Kenya Airways today announced their joint plans to celebrate World Malaria Day.  The companies will provide a limited edition DawaPlus® 2.0 long-lasting insecticide treated net to every passenger on Kenya Airways’ Bangkok-Nairobi flight departing on 25 April, with the objective of raising awareness about malaria among business and leisure travelers to the African continent.

April 25 has been designated World Malaria Day, to raise awareness of malaria, which affects up to 500 million people a year and kills one million, many of whom are children living in Sub-Saharan Africa. The international community has set a goal of eradicating malaria by 2015.

In addition to efforts by governments, non-governmental organizations and the international community, the private sector and individuals can also play a major role in combating the disease.  For example, businesses can make their workplaces “malaria-safe”, by educating staff about malaria and providing nets and medicines to employees.  Individuals can ensure their friends and families are aware of the risks and causes of malaria, take appropriate preventive measures and encourage governments to step up malaria eradication efforts.

The collaboration between Tana Netting and Kenya Airways aims to educate business and leisure travelers about malaria and encourage them to take action.  Each passenger on Kenya Airways flight KQ 861, departing Bangkok for Nairobi at 00.35 on 25 April will receive a limited edition DawaPlus® 2.0 long-lasting insecticide treated net, along with information about malaria, its prevention and what individuals and businesses can do to help eradicate the disease.  The nets have been specifically tailored for travelers and come in high quality nylon packaging.

The nets will be offered to all passengers, free-of-charge, during the inflight service, following a media event at Suvarnabhumi Airport on Saturday evening, the companies announced.
