DAKAR, SENEGAL - Tana Netting has donated 1,650 DawaPlus® long lasting insecticide treated nets to support the Mobile Medical Units project organized by the Royal Thai Embassy in Dakar, Senegal. The Embassy’s project, initiated by H.E. Dr. Itthi Ditbanjong, aims to promote good health across West Africa by offering free medical treatment, medicines and mosquito nets in rural areas, as well as training and scholarships for doctors.
As a private business, Tana Netting is pleased to be a part of the “triangular development cooperation” being established between the Thai and Senegalese governments and the private sectors in both countries. Tana Netting is an active member of the international development community and seeks to enhance Thailand’s position as a leader in malaria prevention, by producing high quality products, cooperating with projects and promoting technology transfer.
During an audience with H.E. Dr. Itthi in early September, Chris Messer, Tana Netting Marketing Manager, and Oumar Boye, Director of Palunet SARL, Tana Netting’s distributor in Senegal, learned of the Embassy’s extensive health and development projects.
“His Excellency’s tireless work to improve the quality of life throughout the region impressed us and we decided immediately to offer support,” said Mr. Messer. “With our donation, the Embassy was able to distribute over 3,000 long-lasting nets in Senegal and neighboring countries. As the only Thai manufacturer of long-lasting nets, Tana Netting is pleased to support the efforts of our diplomatic missions abroad.”
In total, over 3,125 DawaPlus® LNs were distributed in 2008 by the Embassy in Senegal, Gambia, Burkina Faso and other countries in the region. For more information about the Royal Thai Embassy and its activities, visit www.thaiembassy.org/dakar/. |
