Overview |
 |
DawaPlus® is Tana Netting’s long-lasting insecticide treated mosquito net (LLIN). DawaPlus is made from 100% polyester and is treated with deltamethrin insecticide, which repels, knocks down and kills mosquitoes, reducing the risk of malaria transmission and ensuring a good night’s sleep. The insecticide on DawaPlus® remains effective for over 20 washes, offering durable protection. Unlike conventional insecticide treated nets (ITNs), which must be re-treated every four to five washes, DawaPlus® requires no re-treatment over the lifetime of the net.

Public-private partnership |
 |
In response to calls by the international malaria community to scale up production of LLINs, in 2003, Tana Netting, NetMark (a project of USAID) and Bayer Environmental Science formed a public-private partnership to develop an innovative, mechanized LLIN application process. Since production started in December 2005, DawaPlus® has helped over 2 million people in 25 countries on five continents get a good night's sleep free from malaria. Key customers have included malaria control projects run by ministries of health, NGOs, USAID and UN agencies, as well as military forces and travel suppliers.

Chemistry |
 |
DawaPlus® is treated with deltamethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid that is one of the safest and widely used insecticides in the world. The insecticide is applied in a unique end-of-the-line treatment process that ensures that DawaPlus® remains effective against anopheles mosquitoes for 20 or more washes.

DawaPlus® is produced at Tana Netting's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Thailand. Current capacity is 3 million nets per year, with plans to scale up to 10 million nets per year. Tana Netting is exploring technology transfer opportunities to bring this vital technology to the African continent.

Quality Assurance |
 |
Tana Netting performs stringent quality assurance at every step of the production process. Quality assurance teams inspect all incoming fabric and perform random inspections of net dimensions and sewing quality to ensure compliance with WHO netting material specifications. Tana Netting's in-house laboratory tests all chemicals for consistency upon arrival at the factory and verifies the active ingredient content on post-production net samples.

Tana Netting's commitment to corporate social responsibility begins with the production process. Treating DawaPlus® during the final stage of production minimizes worker exposure to chemicals and creates a pleasant, odor-free working atmosphere. Further, the closed treatment system ensures that the production process has zero impact on the environment.
